Korean Studies Junior Faculty Workshop

The Social Science Research Council is pleased to announce the Korean Studies Junior Faculty Workshop. Six recent PhDs conducting research on Korea will be selected on the basis of the potential contribution of their proposed book. Fellows will attend a two-day workshop and collaborate with two senior faculty and a developmental editor on the conceptualization and planning of a dissertation-based scholarly monograph. Funding for the workshop is provided by the Korea Foundation.

 

Application Deadline: Tuesday, April 30, 2013

 

The 2013 workshop will take place the evening of Thursday, July 4 through the morning of Sunday, July 7 at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California.

 

The workshop will provide the following:

  • Workshop in Pacific Grove, CA, including three nights of accommodations and travel costs;
  • Discussion with colleagues, developmental editor, and senior faculty.

 

This year’s mentor faculty are Nancy Abelmann (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagn) and Nicole Constable (University of Pittsburgh). They will be joined by Reed Malcolm (UC Press) and developmental editor Maria Gillombardo.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand by December 31, 2012, with a critical mass of their first book manuscript complete (such as the introduction and two substantive chapters). Applicants in tenure-stream positions are particularly encouraged to apply.

  • Cover letter assessing your own progress and statement of need

  • Up to five-page book prospectus, single-spaced
  • Narrative chapter outline (as detailed in “Sample Chapter Outline”)
  • One-page list of published works that are relevant to your manuscript
  • Two-page CV

 

All sections of the application must be collated as a continuous .pdf document, no more than 500 KB, arranged in the order listed above.  Once you have submitted your application, a receipt of notification will be emailed to you.
