OPPORTUNITY FOR BILINGUAL (KOREAN/ENGLISH) POST-GRADUATE IN THE UK
This is an exciting opportunity for a bilingual (Korean-English) postgraduate student in the UK to work on a British Academy/Leverhulme-funded project that examines Koreatown in Los Angeles as a gentrifying immigrant enclave, directed by Dr Geoff DeVerteuil at the University of Southampton.
More specifically, I am funding a Research Assistant for 320 hours of work, to obtain 40 interviews of Korean gentrifiers in Koreatown, interview them for up to an hour each, and translate and transcribe the interview material into English. The pay includes National Insurance but not pension, and works out to £16.71 pounds per hour. There is also the possibility for the RA to co-write and co-author anticipated papers in refereed journals. Work can begin as early as 1 May 2013 but must finish by 31 December 2013.
-Excellent knowledge of spoken Korean and written English
-Interest in urbanization and globalization
-Ability to work independently in the field, either in June (June 23 would be the last day to go to LA) or late August/early September 2013, for three to four weeks.
Please bear in mind that this research will not constitute a PhD topic. Airfare and 3 weeks hotel and subsistence in Los Angeles will be paid through the grant.
