Post, Heidelberg Position Korean Economy and Society

Economy and Society of East Asia (Korea/Japan), Heidelberg University

The Center for East Asian Studies at Heidelberg University invites applications for the position of assistant professor/lecturer in Economy and Society of East Asia, with special emphasis on Japan and/or Korea. The successful candidate will contribute to the research at the Center and teach 4 hours per week during the semester. The search is open as to disciplinary specialization, though applications from scholars coming from economics, political economy, or political science are of particular interest. We prize scholars who generate premium academic research and use this to provide dynamic teaching. Working experience in a medium or large company would be a plus.

Requirements are an above-average PhD and fluency in English, Japanese or Korean, fluency in German is desired. Applications from candidates who are starting their PhD will also be considered if they are exceptionally strong. In this case, the position will be divided into two half-positions. The successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to raising the Center’s profile in the study of economic, political and social developments in contemporary East Asia. Successful candidates without fluency in German are expected to acquire sufficient command of the language to participate in administrative matters and undergraduate teaching within two years.

The application deadline is 30 June 2014 and finalists will be interviewed in July. Appointment will start in October 2014 and will initially be for three years. The position can be extended after successful evaluation. Salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L E13.
